We Are The Lord’s

Topic: Jesus Resurrected To Be Lord of All

For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

Romans 14:8–9 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

2 Samuel 23-24

Bible Versions:

Romans 14:8–9 (NLT) — 8 If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead.

Romans 14:8–9 (NIV) — 8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

Thoughts of Devotion:

It’s important to understand the Lordship of Christ over our lives. Someone might ask, what does this mean? When we summarize the meaning of the word Lordship, it is defined as a person that has complete authority, dominion or command over something, someone that has ranking, authority, power and dignity. The Bible attributes all Lordship to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; He is the Lord of everything! Revelations 19:16 tells us, in reference to Christ, “On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.”

The Lordship of Jesus Christ was as a direct result of his Resurrection, “For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.” The death and resurrection of Jesus was very fundamental in declaring him Lord over everything. As our mediator, Jesus Christ by his sacrifice on the Cross obtained the unquestionable right to carry out all sovereignty over everything, this includes not only the dead, but the living! Today we as believers have the responsibility to submit under the dominion of Jesus. All our life and our being belong to the Lord Jesus. If we live today it is to do his will, his purpose in our lives.

The Lord has every right to lead, to direct and govern every aspect of our lives. This is not an option, this is a mandate! He rescued us; he saved us from our sins. Where would we be if the Lord had not rescued us? We owe all our life to the Lord, we are indebted to Him! Only he is King over our hearts! Some of the last words that Jesus told his disciples was, “Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.” (Matthew 28:18). This same words are a reminder for all of us. Let us allow Christ to establish his Lordship in our lives.

Foundational Scriptures:

1 Thessalonians 5:10 (NKJV) — 10 Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.

Matthew 28:18 (NKJV) — 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.

Ephesians 1:20–21 (NKJV) — 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come.

Psalms 24:1 (NKJV) — 1The earth is the lord ’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.
