Receive The Promise Of The Spirit

Topic: Christ Died So We Can Receive The Promise Of The Spirit

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”[a]), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Galatians 3: 13-14 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

2 Samuel 17-19

Bible Versions:

Galatians 3:13-14 (NLT)-13 But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”[a] 14 Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised[b] Holy Spirit through faith.

Galatians 3:13-14 (MSG)-13-14 Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”? That is what happened when Jesus was nailed to the cross: He became a curse, and at the same time dissolved the curse. And now, because of that, the air is cleared and we can see that Abraham’s blessing is present and available for non-Jews, too. We are all able to receive God’s life, his Spirit, in and with us by believing—just the way Abraham received it.

Galatians 3:13-14 (NLT)-13 But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. Devotional Thoughts:

This week as we remember the life and death of Jesus, it’s important to remember the undeserved grace we have through the Cross. As believers we have put our faith in Jesus; our salvation is not by any human work or merit, but only by the grace of God! In Romans 4:16 it tells us, “Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.”

It is important to remember that all blessings of our Christian life are provided by the death of Jesus on the Cross. We have all the blessings for the sacrifice of  Calvary, including the promise of the Holy Spirit! It was Jesus who became a curse, so that we would have the blessing of His presence, dwelling in us! His promise was fulfilled as Isaiah 44: 3-4 tells us, “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring;  They will spring up among the grass Like willows by the watercourses.”  For this reason, we must enjoy communion with the Holy Spirit today.

Daily we must remember that it was through the sacrifice of Jesus, that we have the great blessing of the Holy Spirit. The great price was already pay at Calvary, all is left for us is to enjoy its undeserved gift, even beyond eternal salvation; today we enjoy His real and palpable presence in us! Certainly the Father poured out through his Son the gift of the Holy Spirit as Joel 2: 28-29 tells us, “And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
