Bible Versions:

Philippians 1:16NKJV) — 16 The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains;

Thoughts of Devotion:

Love should be the heart of the work of evangelism. When you share the message of the good news of salvation it should be done with the love and grace that God has poured out on you. In 2 Corinthians 5:14 it tells us, “For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;” Christ’s love towards lost humanity must prompt us to preach this message of love and mercy. Remember that it was God’s love that touched our lives when we were lost and hopeless.

In the days of the Apostle Paul there were many who preached for the wrong reasons. In Philippians 1:15 it declares how “Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill:” It is important to understand that it is not only being able to announce and preach the gospel message of Jesus Christ, but the reasons must be right! The reason must be the love that one has for the souls that are lost and hopeless. God’s love beating in our own hearts is what will make the difference in listeners. When they hear the message they will feel the tenderness and love of the Lord in their lives.

For this reason we must pray that love is the primary reason why we share the gospel to the lost world. Without love there is no result in our work! Let us pray on this day that the love of God will consume us for a humanity that is without Christ and without hope of eternal life. There is a large void in their lives that nothing and no one can fill. Many without the knowledge of the love of God seek to fill it with the things of this world. But nothing can satisfy the emptiness and thirst in them! Only a heart that is overflowing with God’s love will be effective in sharing the message of hope and salvation.

Foundational Scriptures:

Philippians 1:12 (NKJV) — 12 But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,

2 Corinthians 2:17 (NKJV) — 17 For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.

1 Corinthians 9:17 (NKJV) — 17 For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.

2 Timothy 1:12 (NKJV) — 12 For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.
