John 16:11 (NIV)-11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
John 16:11New Living Translation (NLT)-11 Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.
John 16:11 (MSG)-that judgment takes place as the ruler of this godless world is brought to trial and convicted.
Our Lord Jesus Christ promised that when the Holy Spirit came, he would convince the world of judgment. This judgment was based on what Jesus did through his death on the Cross of Calvary, that’s where He defeated the devil! Through his death and resurrection, Jesus put his seal on the condemnation of Satan. In Colossians 2:15 tells us how Jesus triumphed against the enemy, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” Victory and judgment over the evil forces took place only through the redemption work of Jesus.
This is where the work of the Holy Spirit is to convince sinners of the judgment that awaits them if they refuse to accept Jesus as their only Savior. For those who reject Jesus choose the darkness before the light, the evil before the good, the lie before the truth. They choose the prince of this world, and not the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For this reason, by not accepting Jesus, they will share the judgment of Satan, they will be condemned for an eternity. In 1 John 3: 8 tells the reason that Jesus came to mankind, “He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.“
Today it is very important to understand how serious it is to reject Jesus. We can see that the consequences are eternal and sure, without Christ there is no hope for humanity! It is for this reason that the enemy continually wishes to blind the eyes of men so that the light of the gospel does not shine. In Acts 26:18 it reminds us of the great task we have, ” to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ “For this reason we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit, without Him we can not see even one person coming to the feet of the Cross. Only the Holy Spirit can convince the world of the great consequences of not receiving Jesus as Savior and Lord in their lives.
