Because They Do Not Believe In Me

Topic: The Holy Spirit Convicts Of Sin

 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me;

John 16: 8-9 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

1 Samuel 1-3

Bible Versions:

John 16:8-9 (NIV)-When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me.

John 16:8-9 (NLT)-And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me.

John 16:8-11 (MSG)-“When he comes, he’ll expose the error of the godless world’s view of sin, righteousness, and judgment: He’ll show them that their refusal to believe in me is their basic sin.

Devotional Thoughts:

The Holy Spirit plays a very important role in the work of evangelism. This portion of Scripture teaches us that he is the only one who can truthfully bring conviction or show the people of this world their sin. The Holy Spirit brings a deep and genuine conviction into the heart of the one who is found without salvation, in the darkness of sin! Through the preaching of the Word, the Holy Spirit works to bring a real conviction and effective one. In 2 Timothy 3:16 it tells us, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

The sin of unbelief is the chief sin in which the Holy Spirit deals with the sinner, so he tells us in, John 3: 18-19,” He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”  The moment the Holy Spirit begins to deal with the heart of a person, that person either accepts or rejects Jesus! If the person accepts Jesus, he will obtain eternal life, if he rejects it, he will come to eternal condemnation.

What an important role the Holy Spirit takes, this great work of evangelization. We are certainly privileged to have the Holy Spirit as our helper; or rather we are assisting Him! Only he can persuade of sin, he alone can bring conviction in the hearts to a genuine repentance. In Acts 2: 37-38 he shows us an example of what happens when man responds correctly to the treatment of the Holy Spirit in his life. “Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”  Let us pray that in our day we may see the work of the Holy Spirit actively in the hearts of the lost.

John 8:23-24 (NKJV)-23 And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

John 8:44-45 (NKJV)-44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. 1. The best thing to do is accept the Holy Spirit in our lives because it plays a big role in life

  2. It will take a true experience with the Holy Spirit to bring conviction of ones sins in ones life!! My prayer is that everyone that we reach out to may have an encounter with Christ so they can receive that conviction needed to surrender their life to you!!

  3. Thank You Jesus because your the only one that can judge me because You are free of sin and through You I have found salvation and now I can learn to know what living really is in You! 🙌
    John 3:18-19 (NLT)
    18 “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. 19 And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.
