for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”
Luke 21:4 (NKJV)
Bible Reading Plan
Luke 21:4 (NLT) — 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”
Luke 21:4 (NIV) — 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Luke 21:4 (MSG) — 4 All these others made offerings that they’ll never miss; she gave extravagantly what she couldn’t afford—she gave her all!”
Today, it is important to recognize that The Lord is very aware and always notices the quantity that we give for his work. On this occasion we are able to see how Jesus noticed very attentively the quantity of offering that the people deposited in the arc for the offerings. In Luke 21:1-2, “And he looked up, and saw the rich men that were casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw a certain poor widow casting in her two mites.” As we read this we understand that it’s not only about the quantity but the quality of our giving.
It’s possible that some of us may be giving The Lord only of what is left over! This leads us to a mentality that says, “if I have left over then I’ll give, but if not then I can’t give to the work of The Lord.” It is possible to be giving with this attitude in our heart. The example of the widow teaches us the opposite, she didn’t give of what was left over, on the contrary she gave everything she had in the midst of her great need. According to human calculation she was giving only two coins, but before The Lord’s eyes she deposited more then the rest.
This is the time for change and transformation! The Lord is seeking for men and women that would make a difference in their giving. Let’s believe that it’s possible to live a lifestyle of generosity and liberality in our giving for the work of The Lord. That our giving would be sealed by excellence, that we would be like the brothers in Macedonia “that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.” (2 Corinthians 8:2) Let’s not forget that what seals our generosity is not only the quantity of what we give, but how much we keep.
Mark 12:44 (NKJV) — 44 for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”
Philippians 4:11 (NKJV) — 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:
Luke 21:1–2 (NKJV) — 1 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites.
2 Corinthians 8:2 (NKJV) — 2 that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.
