Topic: Another Level Of Faith Is Required To See Provision
When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”

John 6:5–7 (NLT) — 5 Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!”
Thoughts of Devotion:
It’s very important today to see the state of our faith, we must ask ourselves, what is the level of faith we possess? Is it great faith or small faith? To experience Gods miraculous provision it will be necessary to grow in our faith. Great works of provision require great men and women of faith. A faith that is able go move mountains of impossibility! Our faith will move like Matthew 17:20 declares, “So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
In this occasion before Jesus worked the miracle of provision it was necessary to see what faith the disciples possessed. How was Phillips faith? It wasn’t really a great faith, we can see that Philip was a realistic and calculating person. As Jesus asked him,how they would feed everyone? He made a quick calculation, and his conclusion was that there wasn’t enough. Phillip was only looking at the momentary resources at his reach, and not in the provision and the resources of the Father. Phillips test of faith consisted in seeing if he would depend on natural resources or on Jesus to solve the problem.
Jesus had to examine Phillips faith. Sadly his faith was not big, but pessimist, what is a pessimist faith?
It’s a faith that only sees available resources.
It’s a faith that focuses on the impossibility of the situation.
It’s a faith that becomes impatient in seeing that resources are few.
It’s a faith that’s sinks in the desperation of a test.
What about us today, do we posses the necessary faith to see further then our situation? Do we find ourselves counting our wages, when God has called us to grow in our faith? Today is a new day, we must determine not to sink in the world of impossibility. Let’s pray that The Lord increases our faith, the year 2014 can be a totally different year, where our faith can reach new heights!
2 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV) — 5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
Deuteronomy 8:16 (NKJV) — 16 who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end
Genesis 22:1 (NKJV) — 1 Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”
2 Kings 4:43 (NKJV) — 43 But his servant said, “What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?” He said again, “Give it to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the Lord : ‘They shall eat and have some left over.’ ”
