“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7, 8 (NKJV)

Jeremiah 17:7–8 (NLT) — “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.
This morning there are great blessings when we place all our faith and trust in God. Sometimes we confess that it is not very easy to do. But we are sure that it is not in vain when we place all our dependence and trust in The Lord. There are results, the psalmist declares, blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope the Lord! We are richly blessed when our total trust is in God, who promises to take care and bless our lives richly. God invites us to this blessing, to live a life of faith and trust in him, “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man who trusts in him” (Psalms 34:8).
Do we desire to see the blessing on our lives? Today the Lord wants us to live under His blessing. His blessing does not depend on the conditions around us. Faith goes beyond what we see with our own eyes. Even in times when drought and famine surround us, God promises that we will never stop bearing fruit! Our foliage will always be lush, despite the heat. While our roots remain deep and fast in the Lord. Our strength and force will come from the streams of living water. We will be happy and fulfilled in God. All this by the fact that our faith is in God!
We are blessed by The One who promises to take care of those who trust in Him as Psalm 84:12 tells us, “The Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in you.” Let us pray that this morning we never stop relying on God no matter how difficult the situation. It is in moments of trial and difficulty that God promises to bless our lives. We do not trust any man, our dependence is fully in God. Do not forget the previous verse of the portion we read this morning, “Thus says the Lord: Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the Lord” (17:5). Today more than ever we must choose to put our faith in God! He will be our portion and blessing.
