What Do You Have In The House?

Topic: Everything Is In The House, To See The Miracle Of Our Provision

So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”

2 Kings 4: 2 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Exodus 39-40

Bible Versions:

2 Kings 4:2 (NLT)-2 “What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied.

2 Kings 4:2 (NIV)-2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”

2 Kings 4:2(TLB)-“What shall I do?” Elisha asked. “How much food do you have in the house?” “Nothing at all, except a jar of olive oil,” she replied.

Devotional Thoughts:

In this verse we see that the prophet makes a very key question to the widow, he says, what do you have in your house? Everything she needed to start the miracle of provision was already at home. She did not see it, but God already had the plan to supply her need, and give her much more than she imagined. It reminds me of the question Jesus asked the disciples in Matthew 15:34 before doing the miracle of provision, “Jesus said to them,” How many loaves do you have? And they said, Seven, and a few little fish. “All that the Lord needs is what we have in our hands. Everything necessary to see the miracle of God’s provision is in you.

The question is, what do you have in your house, in your hands, at your disposal? It may not be much in your eyes, or for the eyes of others, but for God is more than enough to produce a miracle! God does not need much to act in our circumstances; it only takes a step of faith and obedience! To be able to know that with little, he can do much more if we depend on Him. Recall what Ephesians 3:20 tells us, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”

As long as we do not seek His provision, little will always remain little! But when God is in the midst, the little will become more than we need! In 2017 you must allow the Holy Spirit to associate with you in all your affairs and you will surely see the miracle of His provision. It is time to start seeing things with eyes of faith and not doubt and fear! As long as we only see a small bottle of oil and nothing else, you will not experience the miracle. We must see further, our eyes of faith must see an almighty God who is willing and ready to bless our lives with his miraculous provision as we depend on Him.

Foundational Scriptures:

Matthew 15:34 (NKJV)-34 Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven, and a few little fish.”

John 16:24 (NKJV)-24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Acts 3:6 (NKJV)-Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

2 Corinthians 6:10 (NKJV)-10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

1 Kings 17:12 (NKJV)-12 So she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”
