Feared the Lord

Topic: The Fear Of God Is The Way To God’s Provision

A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”

2 Kings 4: 1 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Exodus 37-38

Bible Versions:

2 Kings 4:1 (NLT)-One day the widow of a member of the group of prophets came to Elisha and cried out, “My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the Lord. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves.”

2 Kings 4:1 (NIV)-The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”

Devotional Thoughts:

In this portion the Scripture teaches us how God always provides for his children. He is always faithful to those who fear him. On occasion as believers we go through great trials and times of crisis where we learn to trust in the provision of God. In Psalm 37:25 the promise of the Lord tells us, ” I have been young, and now am old;

Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.” In the midst of all crisis, famine and difficulty, we can be sure of his miraculous provision in our lives. He will never leave us; he will always be with us!

For those who fear God, His blessing will always reach from generation to generation. Remember that every seed you sow, the Lord never forgets to bring a great harvest! A blessing that will follow each of your generations. In Psalms 112: 1-3, ” Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments. 2 His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches will be in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.”  The fear of God opens the way for our miraculous provision!

Today we must know whom to turn to in the midst of our crises and difficulties. We can learn how this widow did not stay in her debt, or neither did she surrender to the situation she faced. On the contrary, she sought and waited on the provision of God through the prophet. This morning if we really want to see the miraculous provision in  this year 2017, it is important to fear and obey His Word. We read in Psalm 115: 13-15, ” 13 He will bless those who fear the Lord, Both small and great. 14 May the Lord give you increase more and more, You and your children. 15 May you be blessed by the Lord,Who made heaven and earth.”  God is faithful, He never fails, His provision is secure!
