Zechariah 4: 9 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan
Genesis 48-50

Bible Versions:

Zechariah 4:9 (NLT)-9 “Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sent me.

Zechariah 4:9 (AMP)-9 “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundations of this house, and his hands will finish it. Then you will know (recognize, understand fully) that the Lord of hosts has sent me [as His messenger] to you.

Zechariah 4:9 (MSG) 8 After that, the Word of God came to me: “Zerubbabel started rebuilding this Temple and he will complete it. That will be your confirmation that God-of-the-Angel-Armies sent me to you.

Devotional Thoughts:
In this portion we see how the scripture describe the reason why God had anointed Zerubbabel. It was clear that the power of the Spirit came upon his life with the purpose of building the temple. In Ezra 5: 2 we are told, ” So Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, rose up and began to build the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and the prophets of God were with them, helping them..” There was unity and motivation to build the temple in which the glory of God was to fill. Only the power of the Holy Spirit was able to mobilize not only Zerubbabel, but also all the people!

Today we must realize true building is only accomplished by the power of Holy Spirit; only He can bring growth in our lives and in the work of ministry, as 1 Corinthians 3: 6-7 tells us, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.” One puts his hands to the plow, but is the power of the Holy Spirit that produces results. Without the work of the Spirit, everything will be in vain, and our work will be ineffective. We will put effort and endeavor without lasting results!

Today we must examine and evaluate how we are building? Only the power of the Spirit can enable us to carry out the work that lies ahead. The power of the Holy Spirit is to build, to strengthen, and to carry out the eternal purposes of God. It will not be by our own strength that we will fulfill the things that only the power of the Holy Spirit can do. In Psalm 127: 1 we are told, “Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.” Today is the time to exercise the power given to us by the Lord. Our human weakness leads us to depend on the power of the Holy Spirit to build properly and effectively in 2017.
