The Holy Spirit is with us always in our lives; In good times as well as in hard times, when we find ourselves full of trials and difficulties. He never forsakes us; even in our spiritual desert He always provides us with supernatural guidance and provision. For the people of Israel, we read in Nehemiah 9:21 “I nourish them forty years in the wilderness; They did not need anything; His garments did not grow old, nor did his feet shrink. ” What more care do we need; it is for our sake that we can depend on him at all times in our journey here on earth!
For forty years it was the Holy Spirit who led the people of Israel through the dry and unfruitful wilderness. He alone protected and fed them until they reached the boundaries of the promise land. In Joshua 5:12 tells us, “And the manna ceased the next day, from the time they began to eat the fruit of the land; And the children of Israel never again had manna, but ate the fruits of the land of Canaan that year.” They were finally able to arrive to their final destination, the land that was flowing with milk and honey, because they depended on the Holy Spirit.
This morning we have the same promise, His provision and direction is for us today! We cannot stop depending on the Holy Spirit in the midst of our desert. Our test and struggle is temporary; a land full of blessings awaits us if we depend on Him! Not for a moment should we give up, if we trust and follow the Holy Spirit, even this desert will pass. Surely he will sustain us with spiritual manna and we will drink from the eternal source. The Lord will hear our cry in the wilderness and provide for us as He promised in Isaiah 41:17,“The poor and needy seek water, but there is none, Their tongues fail for thirst. I, the Lord, will hear them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.”
