Devotional Thought:

When we trust, and put our total dependence on the Lord, He always works in a miraculous way! We can see this very clear in the life of David, when he had to face the giant Goliath. David never relied on his past experience, or his human strength; on the contrary, he relied on Lord of Hosts! David decided to put aside the armor, and not for a moment, did he attempt to go up against the giant with human weapons. In 1 Samuel 17:39 he tells us, “David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them.” So David took them off.

The result of his dependence was that God helped him and granted him the defeat of the giant Goliath, and not to mention a great victory for the people of Israel! David had the certainty and confidence that the Lord of hosts was with Him and victory was assured. His trust was not in man’s arm but in the Lord as he states in 2 Chronicles 32: 8, “With him is the arm of the flesh, but the Lord our God is with us to help us and to fight our battles.” He had no fear, but it was clear that his faith and dependence were absolutely on God.

Today we can anticipate a new year full of great victories and triumphs, if our dependence is in the power of the Holy Spirit and not in ourselves. It does not matter what this New Year will brings us, if God with us who could be against us! Deuteronomy 20: 1 reminds us of this truth, “When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.” This morning let’s put our dependence on the Holy Spirit; there is no greater force! With Him can walk in full victory in the New Year 2017.
