As we read this portion of Scripture one might say, oh! how much I need to learn from Jesus? When one examines their own life, one comes to the conclusion that theres still much to learn. Jesus, The great teacher, continually invites us every day to learn through new experiences and lessons. Jesus’ disciples were continuously learning while walking closely with Him. Jesus always taught through his example. As shows John 13:14-15, “For I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash the feet of one another. The example I have given, that as I have done, you should do. “
The teaching method Jesus’ style was, teaching by example. And this morning if we want to be more like Jesus, then it will be essential to take His yoke and learn to be humble and meek. It will be necessary to rid ourselves of pride and arrogance, and live a life of humility and spiritual meekness. If we truly want to be like Jesus, it will cost a great price! We will have to surrender to God and live a life of submission and reverence to His will and purpose for us. It will be the same path that Jesus took, one of humility and submission to the Father.
The road of humility that Jesus took, is described very clearly in Isaiah 53:7, “He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth”. What a great lesson in humility! The image of a lamb who is not fighting or fleeing its shearers, but is silent and gives its life. We at this day we have a great example of humility to follow. We can not abandon the yoke which the Lord offers us today, as difficult as it may be, we must take it upon our shoulders. Remember that humility has its reward, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5).
John 13:14–15 (NKJV) — If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
Matthew 10:16 (NKJV) — “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
Numbers 12:3 (NKJV) — (Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.)
Isaiah 53:7 (NKJV) — He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.
Matthew 5:5 (NKJV) — Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
