If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.
2 Timothy 2:13 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
1 Corinthians 1-3
2 Timothy 2:13 (NIV) — if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
2 Timothy 2:13 (NLT) — If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.
2 Timothy 2:13 (MSG) — If we give up on him, he does not give up— for there’s no way he can be false to himself.
While meditating on this portion of scripture I wonder, on how many occasions have we failed God? How many times have we fallen short in our commitment and dedication to God? If we take a good look and we are honest before God, we can bring to memory at least one occasion. Thinking on this it’s important to recognize that sooner or later we will experience the feeling of failure by not complying with the demands that the Lord makes to our lives. Moments where we fail to successfully pass the tests and temptations that plague us in our daily lives.
I wonder, what should be our attitude to such a feeling of failure and defeat as a result of failing in our faithfulness to God? The Bible encourages us to look beyond ourselves and see God. Understand that has not changed despite the many times that we will have fallen short? He has not abandoned the work of His hands, he remains faithful. Philippians 1:6 tells us, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” God has not changed his plans for our lives, He is a God of second and third chances!
It is for this reason that we must keep trusting and depending on God. He can not deny Himself! We must know that if this day we come to God in humility and brokenness He will give us another chance. He can not refuse a contrite heart. On the contrary, His heart rejoices to see a genuinely repented heart wanting to be faithful. The promises God has made to us remain, He has not forgotten any of them. Today, embrace God’s faithfulness, thank God that He is not like us, “God is not man that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will not do? Spoken, and not it good? (Numbers 23:19).
Numbers 23:19 (NKJV) — “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
Romans 3:3 (NKJV) — For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect?
Luke 8:13 (NKJV) — But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.
Matthew 24:35 (NKJV) — Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
Phillipians 1:6 (NKJV) — being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
Malachi 3:6 (NKJV) — “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
