Thoughts of Devotion:
When we walk in the Spirit then we can produce a great harvest of goodness in our lives. Only the Holy Spirit can empower us to act kindly to all, without Him we can never do anything good! Even the Apostle Paul in Romans 7:18 said, “18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.” Only the work of the Spirit in our hearts gives us the desire to do good to our neighbor, to demonstrate a genuine desire to do good in every opportunity we have .
One may ask, what does goodness mean? The word goodness comes from a Greek word that translates the character of a person governed by what is good and whose goal in life is to do good. That is to say that goodness is everything that represents the highest moral and the highest ethical values. It is love accumulating for the benefit of others, it is a genuine love in action! It is more than a simple work of good to others, it is an abundance of good deeds and actions!
It is important to realize that a person filled with the Holy Spirit will have a good heart, and as a result will always do good to others. This is the example that we should follow and be like believers who walk in the Spirit. The book of 3 John 11 reminds us, “Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.” Today we must seek to act kindly and to help those in need. There is so much evil, cruelty and malice in this world that we live. It’s time to make a difference! To be an example of a person full of supernatural goodness, being a light in the middle of a dark and hopeless world.
Psalms 16:2 (NKJV) 2 O my soul, you have said to the Lord, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.”
Romans 15:14 (NKJV) 14 Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.[
3 John 11 (NKJV) 11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.
Psalms 34:14 (NKJV) 14 Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.
Psalms 37:27 (NKJV) 27 Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell forevermore.
