His Patience Toward Us

Topic: A Patient God, Our Example!

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)

Daily reading plan

John 15-17

Bible versions:

2 Peter 3:9 (NLT) 9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

2 Peter 3:9 (NASB) 9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9 (NIV) 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Devotional thoughts:

We serve a God full of patience and long-suffering. Scripture continually teaches us the character of God toward mankind. His patience is evident especially when we are disobedient and rebellious. In Nehemiah 9:17 he gives us this example, ” They refused to obey, And they were not mindful of Your wonders That You did among them. But they hardened their necks,And in their rebellion They appointed a leader To return to their bondage. But You are God, Ready to pardon, Gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, Abundant in kindness, And did not forsake them.” What a patient and merciful God even when we do not deserve it.

It is for this reason that we must follow his example of patience. But this will only be carried out by the work of the Holy Spirit within us. We must understand that if God demonstrates this patient with us, how much more should we be patient with others! Today we can declare what Exodus 34: 6 tells us, “And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, “His example of patience is unique, if it were not for his patience with us where would we be.

The Lord often stops his anger, even when we deserve it! He offers us mercy, clemency and even more time for us to repent of our evil. It is for this reason that we can not take this lightly, we should instead appreciate and be grateful. This is what Romans 2: 4 reminds us, “Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?” If God has been patient with us, then we must show patience with others! Let us pray that today we can give this fruit of patience in our lives. Only the Holy Spirit can help us to give this fruit in abundance.

  1. Wow! Thank you for being so good to us. Even when we don’t listen to You, you still have mercy and forgive us just the same. #UnconditionalLove #ForeverGreatful
    Nehemiah 9:17 (NLT)
17 They refused to obey and did not remember the miracles you had done for them. Instead, they became stubborn and appointed a leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love. You did not abandon them,

  2. The lord always come in his perfect timing, this is such an important virtue that I desire to have!!! Lord allow me to have patience!
