 The Patience Of Job

Topic: Patience Gives Us The Ability To Persevere

Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

James 5:11 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

John 13-14

Bible versions:

James 5:11 (NLT) 11 We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

James 5:11 (NIV) 11 As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

James 5:11 (NASB) 11 We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the [b]outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.

Devotional though:

Thank God for the great examples that the Bible gives us of men who have demonstrated a persevering patience in the midst of many trials and struggles. The Word invites us to consider their lives, and to learn from there example. One of these examples was Job, a man who, like many of us know, must know had his share of trails, but his end was much better than his beginning. We see the blessing of God in its entirety, but only after seeing go thru so many things, “And the Lord restored Job’s losses[a] when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.” (Job 42:10).

The patience that is a fruit of the Holy Spirit is what gives us the ability to receive and endure evil and difficult circumstances without losing our temper, without getting angry and not giving up. James 1: 2-3 tells us, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” Only the patience of the Spirit in our lives gives us the ability to tolerate And endure the pain without complaining or murmuring of all the bad things that are happening to us. On the contrary, we can show overwhelming joy knowing that the fruit of patience and perseverance is growing in our lives.

This morning you may be going through difficult times where you have the desire to give up, or even worse take situations into your own hands. But it’s in those moments is when we must realize that this is not the will and God! To the contrary it is more likely that the Holy Spirit wants to grow the fruit of patience and perseverance in your life. Remember what Romans 5: 3, “And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;” If we bear the fruit of patience, surely we will reap the blessing of God at the end.

Inspirational Scriptures:

James 1:2-4 (NKJV) 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
