Daily Reading Plan
1 Thessalonians 5:14 (NIV) 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
1 Thessalonians 5:14 (NASB) 14 We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
1 Thessalonians 5:14 (NLT) 14 Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.
The Word of God calls us to be patient with each other. Being able to demonstrate humility, love and tolerance with those who may be difficult to live with and relate to. In Colossians 3: 12-13 it says, “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long suffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. ” This is God’s will for us, that we as believers may be controlled by the Spirit demonstrating this behavior.
Patience with others is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, it is a fruit that we must give not only to our brothers in the faith, but to everyone around us! In Ephesians 4: 2 it tells us to lead ourselves ” with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,” This should be our daily desire and challenge as we walk this day here on earth. Sometimes it is not easy to be patient and tolerant with some people, but with the help of the Holy Spirit we can become spiritual and mature believers.
Today is the time to allow the Holy Spirit to bear the fruit of patience in our lives. Only in this way will we seek the good of the demos, not just ours as Romans 15: 1 tells us, ” We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves..” Patience is required in everything that concerns the Christian life, without patience it is impossible to have good relations with others! Today it is time to experience the fullness of the Holy Spirit, to be merciful and patient with one another. Let us pray that together we can manifest this fruit of the Spirit.
