They Immediately Left Their Nets

Topic: Surrendering Our Will To The Lord

They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

Matthew 4:20-22 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Luke 18-19

Bible Versions:

Matthew 4:20–22 (MSG) — They didn’t ask questions, but simply dropped their nets and followed. A short distance down the beach they came upon another pair of brothers, James and John, Zebedee’s sons. These two were sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, mending their fishnets. Jesus made the same offer to them, and they were just as quick to follow, abandoning boat and father.

Devotional Thought:

We must learn that when the call of the Lord comes to us, it is a call to abandon everything, and completely surrender our will to Him. The disciples from the first day they had to respond fully to the call of the Master. The Lord made them a simple invitation, but it involved their whole lives. Matthew 4:19 teaches us how Jesus declared to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” God’s will for them was, drop everything and now completely take the Master’s will! They would have to abandon their profession of fishermen to become fishers now for Him

I ask you, have you managed to respond completely to God’s call on your life? Have you surrendered your will entirely to God? I think this is one of the most important decisions you make in your walk with the Lord. We all arrive to a very crucial point in life where we have to choose God’s will over our own. The commitment will be high and cost us all, as Matthew 10:37 tells us, “He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. “

What a great lesson He teaches the disciples, they immediately and without hesitation surrendered their will to Jesus! From the moment they made the decision to follow Jesus, their lives were never again the same. Today I invite you to respond to the will of God, and not to think more, let Him be the Lord of your life. This will be the best decision you could make in your life. Do not hesitate any more, today is the day to take this firm and safe decision, as Psalm 119:60 says, and, “I hurried and delayed not to keep your commandments.”
