     Jesus Rejoiced In The Spirit

Subject: Jesus is our example of joy in the Holy Spirit

In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.

Luke 10:21 (NKJV)

Bible Reading Plan

Bible versions:

Luke 10:21 (The Word: the message of God for me)- 21 At that moment, the Holy Spirit filled with joy to Jesus, who said: – Father, Lord of heaven and earth, I praise you because you have hidden all this from the wise and prudent, and would have revealed them to the simple. Yes, Father, that is how you want it.

Luke 10:21 (NIV)- 21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

Luke 10:21 (MSG)- 21 At that, Jesus rejoiced, exuberant in the Holy Spirit. “I thank you, Father, Master of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the know-it-alls and showed them to these innocent newcomers. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.

Thoughts Of Devotion

Here we see the great joy that our Lord Jesus experienced through the fullness of the Holy Spirit. As we look at the verses before we see several things, but one of the things we see is how Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit as he saw the great spiritual victories that the disciples had experienced. As he experience this joy the first thing Jesus did is, express his worship to the Father! The result of being filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit is that we would worship God as he states in Ephesians 5: 18-19, “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”

What a powerful lesson of our Lord Jesus, His life was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit! and this supernatural joy is what made him fulfill his mission that he had here on earth. In Hebrews 12: 2 we remember this, “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Jesus in his earthly ministry suffered a lot, but we can also see how the joy of the Lord strengthened him!

Today we have with in our reach this same joy that our Savior Jesus Christ experienced. The same Holy Spirit that filled him with joy, it’s the one that dwells in our hearts and fills us with joy and gladness! It is a joy that the world will never be able to give us, it is a result of the fullness of the Holy Spirit in our lives. When we have this fruit of the Spirit there won’t be any person or circumstance in this life that can steal our joy. In John 16:22 tells us, ” Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.” This morning we have the assurance of the Holy Spirit that his joy is permanent, although we may go through difficult and hard times, The joy of the Lord will be our strength!

Fundamental Scriptures:

John 15:11 (NKJV)- 11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.

John 17:13 (NKJV)- 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.

John 16:20-22 (NKJV) – 20 Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. 21 A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.

John 11:41-42 (NKJV)- 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying.[a] And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.”

John 16:33 (NKJV)- 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will[a] have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Psalms 43:4 (NKJV)- 4 Then I will go to the altar of God,To God my exceeding joy; And on the harp I will praise You,O God, my God.

1 John 1:4 (NKJV) 4 And these things we write to you that your[a] joy may be full.

2 John 12 (NKJV) 12 Having many things to write to you, I did not wish to do so with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

Isaiah 62:5 (NKJV) 5 For as a young man marries a virgin, So shall your sons marry you; And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, So shall your God rejoice over you.

Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV) 17 The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

1 Corinthians 1:26-27 (NKJV) 26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;

  1. Amen! Joy always comes in the morning no matter what!! #ThankYouJesus #ForeverGreatful
    Psalm 30:5 (NIV)
    5 For his anger lasts only a moment,
    but his favor lasts a lifetime;
    weeping may stay for the night,
    but rejoicing comes in the morning.
    John 16:20-22 (NIV)
    20 Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. 21 A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. 22 So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
