Thoughts of Devotion:
The fruit of the joy of the Holy Spirit is manifested in several ways in the life of the believer. One of them is to possess the ability to be of good cheer! The Apostle Paul and more than two hundred people were on a life threatening situation on there way to Rome. There ship faced a storm and fear had gripped everyone, but Paul had the joy of the Spirit in the midst of the storm! In Acts 27:25 tells us, “Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me. “In the midst of fear, anxiety and despair the apostle Paul could bring calm and security.
He could exhort saying, be of good cheer everything will be fine! Sure they would experience the loss of the ship, but the most important thing is that everyone would be saved. In Acts 27: 23-24 tells us how Paul had this confidence, “For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, saying, Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.” What difference is when we place our trust in the promises of God, instead of in our emotions or circumstances. When we depend on the Holy Spirit he gives us joy, good cheer, and assurance to continue, even when others sink into depression and sadness.
Today we can be of good cheer, it’s possible to have a positive attitude and faith even in the midst of all the storms we face in life. Our trust is in God and not in men, as Numbers 23:19 reminds us, “God is not a man that He should lie, nor the son of man to repent. He said, and will he not? He spoke, and shall he not make it good? “The Holy Spirit has sealed in our hearts his Word giving us confidence, trust and faith. It is only the Holy Spirit that can produce this supernatural joy in the depths of our being. A joy that never depends on the circumstances we may be facing, but on the contrary, despite the circumstances we rejoice in Him.
