With Joy Of The Holy Spirit
Topic: The Joy Of The Holy Spirit
“And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,”
1 Thessalonians 1:6 (NKJV)
Bible Reading Plan
1 Thessalonians 1:6 (NLT) — 6 “So you received the message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the severe suffering it brought you. In this way, you imitated both us and the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 1:6 (NIV) — 6 “You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.”
Thoughts Of Devotion:
As I read this text I ask myself, what is our attitude when we find ourselves in tests and trials? It’s necessary to understand that tests will come to our lives. It is these difficult situations that truly define who we are! It’s when the enemy surprises us with his attacks and fiery arrows that we can see what we are made of. See one thing is to have joy when everything is ok, but how about when things are getting worse. How do we react? What is our attitude? Do we lose the Joy of the Lord?
Jesus gives us the example of the seed that was planted in stony places, “But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles” (Matthew 13:20-21). It’s very sad to see that there are so many believers that in difficult times instead of running to the Lord, to the secret place of prayer, they end up running away from Him. It shouldn’t be that way! We have the Holy Spirit living in our hearts. Not only to give us new strength in our inner man, but to give us permanent JOY.
In the midst of any situation that we may be going through, it is possible to have the joy of the Holy Spirit. There is no reason why we should let sadness or depression defeat us today. We have a joy that no one, and nothing can take it away! It is the eternal and permanent joy that overflows within us through the Spirit, regardless of the unpleasant situations that we may face. Today we must make a firm dicision to walk with joy and peace in the Holy Spirit today! Believing that His joy, will give us the strenght and perserverance to fulfill His plan in our life.
Acts 13:50–52 (NKJV) — 50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, raised up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. 51 But they shook off the dust from their feet against them, and came to Iconium. 52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 16:25 (NKJV) — 25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
1 Peter 4:13–14 (NKJV) — 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.[a] On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.
Matthew 5:12 (NKJV) — 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
