Thoughts of Devotion:
The mandate of Jesus on this occasion, to his disciples, was the need for them to love one another. The Lord wanted them to love each other in the same way in which He loved them. And how great and immense the love Jesus showed them! In Ephesians 5: 2 tells us, “and walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smell.” The love that Jesus demonstrated to them was a love that gave itself completely. A committed and self-sacrificing love! This is the love that the Lord still looking for us this day.
We must pray this morning that we also possess this fruit of divine love through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. Today we can not live in hostility with our neighbors. If God loved us, then it is our responsibility to love our brothers. We managed to see in 1 John 3:16 that even God calls us to be willing to give our lives for our neighbor, “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us; we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. “I wonder, are we willing to follow this example of Jesus? Sometimes following these footsteps of the Master will not be easy, but when we think of the love that is shown to us it is possible.
Today the Holy Spirit wants to produce this spiritual fruit in us. We understand that if the Word calls us to love, then we do not have a choice! Jesus left us an example for which we as disciples can follow. The Holy Spirit gives us the CAPACITY of having a brotherly, affectionate and intimate love with our family in the Lord as we stated in 1 Thessalonians 4: 9, “But about brotherly love ye need not that I write for you yourselves learned from God to love one another. “We have the highest, sublime and deep model of love, Jesus, let us follow his footsteps with the help of the Holy Spirit!
