Daily Reading Plan
Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) ̶ 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT) ̶ 22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Galatians 5:22-23(MSG) ̶ 22-23 But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.
Though Of Devotion:
This morning we begin the topic of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. The Bible speaks to us of 9 spiritual virtues that only the Holy Spirit can produce in our lives. The book of Galatians gives us a scope of how a spiritual life looks in its totality. It’s only when we produce these virtues of the Holy Spirit in our lives that we can consider ourselves spirituals. This list of 9 characteristics can serve as a rule of conduct for those who desire to be spiritual and mature, this is what the Holy Spirit seeks to produce in us!
We see that a synonym of the fruit of the Spirit can be described as spiritual character. The Christian character is produced through the Holy Spirit, and not only through the simple moral discipline or even our own strength. It is only the presence of the Holy Spirit that produces these Christian virtues in our lives. This spiritual character is possible only through our union that we have with Christ, and our daily communion with the Holy Spirit. In John 15:5 it tells us, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
The spiritual fruit is given through the relationship that we have with the vine. When we remain in Him, we are free to give fruit of the Spirit. Today is the time to give fruit for the Lord. We were created to give spiritual fruit in our daily walk. In Ephesians 2:10 it says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” This morning it is the will of God that we will give much spiritual fruit. That our life and conduct will be an example, a life that gives good testimony, filled of spiritual fruit.
