There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.

Proverbs 11:24–25 (NIV) — 24 One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Proverbs 11:24–25 (MSG) — 24 The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller. The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.
Thoughts of Devotion:
Generosity has promises from God, in the same way greed has real consequences. For those who gives with hands full, The Lord promises to give more. The reason why we experience this blessing is due to the fact that God is debtor to no one. His provision and blessings are upon those that are liberal in their giving, those that are not stingy with The Lord. Do we desire to see God’s generosity upon us? The secret is that we must be generous with Him! Let’s remember what his word tells us, “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” (2 Corinthians 9:6)
There is no reason today that we should withhold what is just. It’s sad when we live our life always with a closed fist, with greed in our heart. Scripture continually warns us of the consequences of this type of life style. It assures us of the poverty, the total loss, and even an ending of misery. Who would desire to end this way? I believe no one would. It is important not to withhold more then what is just. The Lord asks us that we would first be generous with Him, “Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.”(Proverbs 3:9, 10)
We must practice this, but we cannot forget that it should be with God before anything else. Let’s not fall in the mistake of being generous with others, and not with God. There are those that are very liberal and giving with people, but not with The Lord. It can’t be that way, we must remember that God promises that our barns will be full and abundant when we are generous to Him. God always takes care of those that are generous with Him, God will always provide for the generous! Today let’s pray to The Lord that we would always practice generosity in our daily lives. Let’s ask God for a generous heart.
Let us allow the Holy Spirit to form us and take us to another level in our lives. That all greed in our lives would be removed and we would experience God’s blessing and prosperity. That we would begin to be faithful to God in our tithes, pledges and special offerings during our 90 day challenge. Let’s not forget that those that withhold more then what is just will come to poverty. Dr. Barnhouse was correct in his observations when he said, “we all do truly tithe, whether it’s to The Lord, or the doctor, or to the dentist or to the mechanic.” Today let’s practice generosity, so that our money would not end in torn pockets.
Proverbs 3:10 (NKJV) — 10 So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.
Deuteronomy 15:10 (NKJV) — 10 You shall surely give to him, and your heart should not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the Lord your God will bless you in all your works and in all to which you put your hand.
Ecclesiastes 11:1 (NKJV) — 1 Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days.
Luke 6:38 (NKJV) — 38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Psalms 10:3 (NKJV) — 3 For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire; He blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord.
Ecclesiastes 5:13 (NKJV) — 13 There is a severe evil which I have seen under the sun: Riches kept for their owner to his hurt.
Proverbs 21:5 (NKJV) — 5 The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.
