Thoughts Of Devotion:
This morning I wonder, how do we view ourselves? What opinion do we have of the state of our spiritual growth? It could be that some of us think that we have come to the spiritual peak of our lives, there is no longer a need to grow any more! The Apostle Paul recognized that although he had matured and developed his life to great spiritual heights, He was still challenged to continue to grow and mature! In Philippians 3:13 he makes this statement, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do,forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.”
This is the same feeling that there must be in our hearts today. God has still not completed the process, there is much more that He longs to do in our lives! In 1 Peter 5:10, it tells us, “But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settleyou.” The growth challenge is great, he is in the process of perfecting, affirming, strengthening and establishing. The process is so extensive! It’s all in the plan that God has for each of us.
For this reason we cannot pretend that we have already reached the top of our spiritual growth and development. On the contrary there is still much more, the hand of God continues to work in our lives. At the end of the day the Lord will complete his process in us, if you really want it! Psalm 138: 8 says, “The Lord will perfect that whichconcerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” What a powerful truth, surely God will fullfil his purpose, his divine plan in our lives. Today we are his handiwork! All we have to do is take seriously the challenge of growth and no longer be settled where we are.
