Topic: One Must Die To Self To Give Spiritual Fruit
Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.
John 12:24 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
John 12:24 (MSG) ― 24 “Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over.
John 12:24 (NLT) ― 24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives.
John 12:24 (NIV) ― 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
Thoughts Of Devotion:
The Holy Spirit desires to produce spiritual fruit in our lives. It is very clear that this is the purpose for which we have been rooted in the Lord. If there is something that will mark our lives it is to be able to obtain spiritual fruit in abundance! The will of our Heavenly Father is that we would have much fruit as it states in John 15:8, “By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” Our lives glorify God when we surrender spiritual fruit in our Christian walk. It is only then that we can come to be true disciples of the Lord.
It is true that we all desire much fruit, but for this to happen we must understand that there is a process. Jesus gave us the example, the only way to give fruit in abundance! He declared that if the grain of wheat didn’t die, it stays alone, without surrendering fruit! The seed first must die and be consumed for a plant to produce fruit, only through the death of the seed is it that fruit is created! Jesus taught us that to give spiritual fruit first we need to die to ourself, abandon our egocentric life, and live under the dominion of the Holy Spirit. Remember what John 12:25 tells us, “He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”
Today we must crucify our life, for the life of the Spirit to produce much fruit in us. We must let go of our past nature and be dressed in the new man of Christ Jesus. In John 15:2 it tells us, “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away;and everybranchthat bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” There is a process of cleanliness that must happen in us, a process where the Lord prunes us, so that at the end of the day the Holy Spirit can produce spiritual fruit in us!
