Topic: We Can’t Be Fruitful Unless We Abide In Him
If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. John 15:6 (NKJV)
Bible Reading Plan
John 15:6 (NLT) — 6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.
John 15:6 (MSG) — 6 Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire.
Thoughts Of Devotion:
How important it is to abide in Christ! It is so important to maintain an intimate and unbreakable relationship with the Lord daily. It is the only way we will bare abundant fruit for the Lord. The only guarantee to have a fruitful year depends on how deep our relationship with the Lord is. It is for this reason that the gospel of John emphasizes the phrase, “abide in me” on 40 different occasions. This shows us the great importance of maintaining a strong and lasting relationship with the Lord.
I believe it is important for us to ask ourselves today, how is my relationship with the Lord? What is my true spiritual state before Him? A way to see our true condition is to see the fruit that we are producing for the Lord! The Bible tells us, “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.” (Matthew 7:20) The fruit determines the tree, in the same way, the quality and quantity of fruit we produce for the Lord, determines how deep and how strong our relationship with God is. We can’t be deceived, only our fruit determines whether we are abiding in Him.
For this reason we must always make sure that our roots are deep in the Lord. Otherwise, we run the risk of drying up and falling in a spiritual state of death. What could take place in our lives is what Matthew 13:5-6 tells us, “Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away.” Let us pray that this would never happen to us, none of us desire that our branches would dry up and we would ultimately fall in spiritual death.
John 15:2 (NKJV) — 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
Matthew 3:10 (NKJV) — 10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Matthew 13:5–6 (NKJV) — 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away.
Matthew 7:19–20 (NKJV) — 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
