Thoughts Of Devotion:

Looking at the lives of the first disciples in the Book of Acts one can clearly see the successful way they preached the word of God with great power and courage. It was as a direct result of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon their lives. This was the secret of their effectiveness in the proclamation of the gospel! Words were not only proclaimed but the power of the Holy Spirit accompanied the preaching of the gospel! In 1 Thessalonians 1:5, it states “For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

The Holy Spirit impulsed the disciples to go out everywhere, such as the villages and communities to preach the gospel with authority and courage. They did not fear persecution or opposition they might face, because the anointing of the Holy Spirit was with them! Many miracles and wonders followed the proclamation of the message as Hebrews 2:4 says, “ God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?” They had the Holy Spirit working together with them when they preached the Word, the results were signs, miracles and wonders!

How we need the Holy Spirit today! As we read this, our eyes should open and see the great power that manifests when one preaches the Word with the power and the infilling of the Holy Spirit upon our lives. I think this is what we urgently need this morning. Today men and women saturated by the Spirit are sought for, to proclaim the message of spiritual power and authority! It is not enough just to proclaim and preach the gospel, we need the Holy Spirit working in the hearts of the listeners. In conclusion remember what Mark 16:20 tells us, ” And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs.” Amen.
