Leadership Principles In The Book Of Acts

“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—

Acts 2:22 (NKJV)

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Jeremiah 5-7

Bible Versions:

Acts 2:22 (NLT) — 22 “People of Israel, listen! God publicly endorsed Jesus the Nazarene by doing powerful miracles, wonders, and signs through him, as you well know.

Acts 2:22 (MSG) — 22 “Fellow Israelites, listen carefully to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man thoroughly accredited by God to you—the miracles and wonders and signs that God did through him are common knowledge—

2 Timothy 2:15 (MSG) — 15 Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won’t be ashamed of, laying out the truth plain and simple.

2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT) — 15 Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.

Development Of The Leadership Principle:

In the first sermon that the Apostle Peter preached in the Book of Acts, his emphasis was salvation that is only found in Jesus of Nazareth!

The Apostle Peter describes Jesus like a man approved by the Father.

The word approved refers to someone who has overcome the test, proved to be good or sufficient, and is declared competent or skilled.

Jesus had the main approval, the approval and authority of the Father!

In leadership one must seek the approval of God, without the seal of the approval of God in our lives and ministries we will not be effective in our calling and ministry.

The leader must dedicate himself and do everything possible to be a person that is found with the approval of God in his life.

First of all to obtain the approval of God one must be tested.

A leader needs to go through the process of tests over his life. His motives, character, his entire being must be tested to know what he is made of.

Every leader needs to be tested to be approved.

1 Peter 1:7 (NKJV) — that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

It’s necessary to be first tested, before exercising leadership.

In not doing this we will have a novice, exercising leadership without the approval of God over our lives. This will cause more harm than help in the work of God.

1 Timothy 3:6-7 (NKJV) — not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Secondly it is through the fruit of the life of a leader that one can see the approval of God in his life and ministry. The fruit of a leader is what will demonstrate the approval!

One can see that it was the approval in the ministry of Jesus that came with the seal of great wonders, miracles, and signs in the ministry of Jesus. It was very evident that Jesus was the Messiah, the only one in whom eternal salvation could be found.

The approval of God was evident; no one could deny this truth! Even those that doubted that he came from the Father, the works of Jesus accredited him.

In John 14:10–11, “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.”

The danger today in leadership is that some have the name or title of leader, but there is no fruit that seals his leadership. A leader with the approval of God has fruits that follow him!

Matthew 7:16-20 (NKJV) — 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Matthew 12:33 (NKJV) — 33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.

It is the fruit of good work and growing in the Word are the two important things that every leader must follow to seek the approval of God.

Colossians 1:10 (NKJV) — 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Thirdly, a true leader must seek the approval of God over all.

The leader must firstly seek to please God and obtain the favor of God over his life…it is a great mistake seeking to be good and look good before men and forgetting that it is the approval of God that matters.

Galatians 1:10 (NKJV) — 10 For do I now persuade men, u? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

Only God knows our true condition, we can deceive everyone! But not God!

Only he tests our hearts and knows the true spiritual state in which we are in.

1 Thessalonians 2:4 (NKJV) —But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.

This morning let us seek the favor, the grace, and the approval of the Father. When one has the approval of God in our leadership it will make the difference in ministry.

Foundational Scriptures Of The Principle:

2 Corinthians 5:9-10 (NKJV) — Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Romans 14:18 (NKJV) — 18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.

Romans 16:10 (NKJV) — 10 Greet Apelles, approved in Christ. Greet those who are of the household of Aristobulus.

2 Corinthians 10:18 (NKJV) — 18 For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.

Galatians 1:10 (NKJV) — 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

Colossians 1:10 (NKJV) — 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

1 Thessalonians 2:4 (NKJV) — But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.
