By Whom We Cry Out, “Abba, Father.”

Topic: By Means Of The Holy Spirit We cry Abba Father

15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:15 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Jeremías 1-4

Bible Versions:

Romans 8:15 (NIV) 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry,“Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:15 (NLT) 15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:15 (MSG) 15-17 This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?”

Devotional Thoughts:

Thank God that we are free from all bondage this morning! The chains of our past have been destroyed. There is nothing that can shackle us, we have an extraordinary freedom through the Holy Spirit. In 2 Corinthians 3:17 the Word says, ” Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” As believers, we enjoy a complete and total freedom. Now our life is not one of bondages, but our life is marked by the freedom of the Holy Spirit. We are free to serve the Lord and enjoy his presence.

Now we are no longer slaves, but children of God! Adopted by our Heavenly Father. We are very privileged to be part of the family of God, and call upon God as “Papa”, to come before him with sincerity and affection, without any fear in prayer to Him as “Papa.” It is for this reason that we can approach the throne boldly, as Hebrews 4:16 ” Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Since he is our Father, he is more than willing to listen and meet our needs! We are his children and he is interested in meeting our requests, to give us what we need.

It is the Holy Spirit that reminds us and confirms in our hearts that we are adopted as children, and we have the privilege of calling God Papa! In Galatians 4: 6, ” And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Within us is the Holy Spirit that bears witness that we are Children of God, born into a new family, and have the great privilege of calling the almighty God, Father, being able to enjoy an intimacy and closeness with God, not as servants or slaves, but children of Him!
