31 he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.

Acts 2:31-32 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Isaiah 37-40

Bible Versions:

Acts 2:31-32 (NLT) — 31 David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave. 32 “God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this.

Acts 2:31-32 (MSG) — 31 But being also a prophet and knowing that God had solemnly sworn that a descendant of his would rule his kingdom, seeing far ahead, he talked of the resurrection of the Messiah

Thoughts of Devotion:

The resurrection of Jesus was the message of the first christians. All of the disciples together with the Holy Spirit gave testimony of it. As it says in Acts 5:31-32, “Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.” The center of the message was very clear and defined, Jesus rose and his body was no longer in the grave! He hadn’t only risen but it was important that they knew that he ascended to the heavens and was exalted at the right hand of the Father.

The Psalmist David prophesied of it, declaring that the body of Jesus wouldn’t rot in the tomb, but he would rise on the third day. This prophecy was fulfilled in the presence of the disciples. They were eye witnesses of all of the important events. In Acts 10:39-41 it tells us, “And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. 40 Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.”

Today as believers we celebrate and testify of his resurrection. The message hasn’t changed, we continue proclaiming the truth of the Gospel! This must be our desire, knowing the power of the resurrection in our lives! In Philippians 3:10, “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.” This morning there is still power in the resurrection of Christ, we are witnesses of it! For this reason we cannot stay quiet, we must continue announcing the message of the death and resurrection of Jesus. Only through this truth will we see lives transformed and changed by the power of the gospel.

Foundational Scriptures:

1 Peter 1:11-12 (NKJV) — 11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into.

John 11:25 (NKJV) — 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.

Acts 17:18 (NKJV) — 18 Then[a] certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, “What does this babbler want to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.

Philippians 3:10 (NKJV) —10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

Acts 26:23 (NKJV) — 23 that the Christ would suffer, that He would be the first to rise from the dead, and would proclaim light to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.”

Acts 1:22 (NKJV) — 22 beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”

Acts 5:31-32 (NKJV) — 31 Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

Acts 10:39-41 (NKJV) — 39 And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. 40 Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.
