Sit On His Throne

Topic: Jesus Takes His Place As King And Lord Over All

“Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,

Acts 2:29-30 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Isaiah 32-36

Bible Versions:

Acts 2:29–30 (NIV) — 29 “Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.

Acts 2:29–30 (MSG) — 29 ““Dear friends, let me be completely frank with you. Our ancestor David is dead and buried—his tomb is in plain sight today. But being also a prophet and knowing that God had solemnly sworn that a descendant of his would rule his kingdom,

Thoughts Of Devotion:

In this portion the Apostle Peter clarifies and exposes the prophecy give in Psalms 16  (and we read in the previous verses 25-28) it wasn’t possible to have had a perfect fulfillment in the life of the King David. Because it was clear that “So David rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David.” (1 Kings 2:10). It was understood that this prophecy refers to Jesus, looking to the day where he would take his eternal throne, in 2 Samuel 7:12-13 God promises this, “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.”

It is important to understand that the throne and kingdom of Jesus was going to be forever. From the lineage of David, the Messiah was going to come, he who would take the eternal throne. In Luke 1:31-33 we read, “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”” It was evident that now they were witnessing the fulfillment of this promise. Now they were witnesses that the tomb was empty and it was very clear that he was no longer on the cross! He had now taken his place at the right hand of the Father seated on his throne as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Today Jesus is seated on the throne and is declared King forever. His kingdom is eternal and deserves all of our adoration and worship for all eternity. In Revelations 7:9-10 it describes this glorious future, “After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”” Glory to God that one day not too far away we will be around the throne of Jesus, the Lamb of God who was slain for our sins, we will give him glory and honor forever and ever!
