Thoughts of Devotion:
The Apostle Peter reminds his audience once more of the death of Jesus, as if they were the ones who nailed him to the cross! He directly declares them guilty of the death and crucifixion of the Messiah. Peter was direct, he did not hold back the truth of what they had done to Jesus on the cross. In Mathew 20:18-19 it describes this, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death,19 and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.”
It was important to remind them that everything that happened was conformed to a plan projected and known beforehand by God. The plan of redemption, Jesus was to die for the sins of humanity! Even though he was surrendered by Judas, condemned to death by the priest, the scribes and the Gentiles beat him and crucified him, the Father’s will was being done! In no way does he exempt them of guilt for his death, and Peter makes sure to remind them. They had to understand that although he was crucified, death couldn’t hold him back, now he is the one who reigns for ever as Acts 2:36 tells us, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
Today we must always have in mind the death of Jesus. His sacrifice on the cross is significant to us as believers! He took our place on the cross of Calvary. We deserved to die, but he loved us so much that he took our place. Our heart must be full with gratitude and adoration this morning. We will one day worship the lamb of God before his throne as it tells us in Revelations 13:8, “All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” To him be the glory, and the honor for all eternity.
