Thoughts of Devotion:
There is nothing that compares to having the fire of the Holy Spirit ablaze in our hearts. It is one of the greatest spiritual blessings that we can have! In Mathew 3:11 we read how John the Baptist anticipated the day when every believer would be baptized in the Holy Spirit and fire saying “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Jesus baptizes us with fire of the Holy Spirit!
It is very sad when we allow the flame and the fire of the Spirit to die out in our hearts. We see in Genesis 6:3 how God warns man of this danger, “And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strivewith man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” Today we as believers have the great privilege of enjoying an intimate and personal communion with the Holy Spirit, what would be of our lives without Him! Let us be care of not turning off the Holy Spirit, suppressing his work within us, putting limits and hindrances.
What would be of us if we continually are turning off the Holy Spirit in our lives? We would lose more than we can imagine! We cannot resist his work in our life. In Acts 7:51 it tells us, “You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.” We must give liberty and remove all obstacles that are turning off his work in our life and ministry. There is an urgency to see the fire and strength of the Holy Spirit active in our day, but it is up to us to maintain the flame and strength active in us.
Today we must examine our lives, and understand that sin can turn off the Spirit. It is time to accept his direction, his correction, and his complete work in our lives. We must protect ourselves from living out lives in disobedience, away from a communion with Him. Let us take the firm decision of not turning off his work in our hearts! This morning let us pray the same words David prayed in Psalms 51:11, “Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.” May the Lord help us daily to maintain the flame of the Holy Spirit burning in our being that nothing or no one would achieve to turn it off!
