Thoughts of Devotion:
Finally the fulfillment of the promise given by the prophet Joel centuries ago came to pass. God always fulfills what he says, his Word is sure. Even though the prophecy is given much time before, the fulfillment is sure. Everything God had spoken through the mouth of the prophet was coming to pass in the Lord’s perfect time and in the prophetic watch. In Isaiah 31:15 it also speaks to us about the glorious day, “Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, And the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, And the fruitful field is counted as a forest.”
The promise was very clear and defined, the Holy Spirit would be poured overall flesh! Not just over the jews, the chosen people of God, but also over the gentiles like it tells us in Acts 10:45, “And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.” All the nationalities, all the social classes, young and old, would be impacted by the power of the Holy Spirit over their lives. From Jerusalem to the ends of the earth men and women would receive power to be witnesses of Jesus and accomplish the commission.
Today we have the same promise, we are living in the dispensation of the Holy Spirit. In Acts 2:39 it tells us, “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” The Holy Spirit continues to fill men and women to be able to accomplish the preaching of the gospel to the nations. His outpouring has not stopped, even his promise stands for all those who desire to be baptized in his power and fire. The promise is not exclusive, or only for the early church it is for everyone.
