Thoughts of Devotion:
The outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave way to a new stage identified in the Scriptures as “the last days.” During this period, the Lord promises to pour out his Spirit in a special way and not only over a few individuals, but over all flesh! This is a period in history where we see the gospel will be preached in all the world and many will come to salvation as Mathew 24:14 tells us, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” It will be a time where the testimony of Jesus through the work of the Holy Spirit will bring to the knowledge of God.
It will be a glorious time where the Holy Spirit will manifest powerfully over all humanity. But at the same time there will be difficult and dangerous times. In 2 Timothy 3:1-4 it tells us, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,3unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.” This is a very clear description of what we should anticipate in the last days.
It is for this reason that it is very important to live lives filled with the Holy Spirit in the final days. Today more than any other day we need the power of the Holy Spirit to be able to overcome all the attacks of the enemy! Only through the Holy Spirit will we be different from the rest. In Galatians 5:22-23 it gives us a description of those that live filled with the Holy Spirit, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” What a difference the Holy Spirit makes in us, through him we will be so different!
Isaiah 2:2 (NKJV) ― 2Now it shall come to pass in the latter daysThat the mountain of the Lord’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it.
2 Timothy 3:1New King James Version (NKJV) ― 3 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:
Hebrews 1:2 (NKJV) ― 2has in these last days spoken to us by HisSon, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
2 Peter 3:3 (NKJV) ― 3knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,
1 John 2:18 (NKJV) ― 18Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the[a] Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.
2 Timothy 4:3 (NKJV) ― 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
Matthew 24:10-12 (NKJV) ― 10And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
1 Timothy 4:1 (NKJV) ― 4 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,
