Thoughts of Devotion:

It’s very surprising at times when we see the people God chooses. When God chooses people we think he can never use for his purposes. In this particular incident, the Jews were amazed and marveled when they saw who the Holy Spirit was being poured upon. They exclaimed, aren’t they Galileans! Since the Galileans were looked down upon as people of inferior culture, they were a considered a mixed race and viewed with contempt by many of the Hebrews. It was something out of the norm, outside the tradition to see simple people, uncultured, perhaps with little education and being used within the purposes of God.

God is always going to surprise us, the Holy Spirit always has his plans and sometimes they don’t make sense! The truth is that he has all the right to use whoever he chooses, without having to ask for permission or consent from others. In 1 Corinthians 2:14 it tells us, “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” Many times it won’t make sense how God decides to use our lives. Maybe others won’t approve, or understand the things that happen in our lives, but the important thing to know is we are doing the will of God!

Today the Holy Spirit desires to us the least likely, those who maybe other people have disqualified and have been overlooked. All it takes is a life that is consecrated, separated by God! In Acts:13 it tells us, “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.” If we only spend time with the Lord, in communion with the Holy Spirit our lives will have great value for the work of the Lord. When one spends time with Jesus things change, from being someone common, we will come to be people who will impact this generation, instruments in the hands of the Master!

Foundational Scriptures:

Mark 1:27 (NKJV) — 27 Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”
