Acts 1:19 (NIV) — 19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

Thoughts of Devotion:

What a sad legacy Judas left, his end was sad and shameful. Instead of ending with a legacy that would leave honor and glory to God. His life is remembered as a traitor, one that sowed for his own flesh and ended in corruption. That’s what it tells us in Galatians 6:7-8, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life..” All that was left of his betrayal was the land that was bought with the coins he received for handing over the master. He was buried there, a place called Field Of Blood.

What a waste of a life, what a great failure. Judas failed in fulfilling his destiny and purpose. Instead of being an instrument of justice, he ended up being an instrument of evil. His life was one of corruption, his heart was full of deception and evil. From the outside, he seemed like a true disciple of Jesus, but inside there was a seed of corruption. From outside he seemed like a sheep, but in his heart he was a wolf as it warns us in Mathew 7:15-16,  “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?”

Today, we need to take care of our hearts, we cannot end the same way Judas did! Our legacy must be one that glorifies God and bring glory to his name. We must be sure that our life gives an example that others will follow. That we would sow a good seed in our life, so that after we will achieve to give good fruit 30, 70, and 100 percent. Because at the end of the day we will give account to God, He who knows our hearts and thoughts. For this reason we must do things with the correct motives, we must be sure that our walk will give fruit to please God.

Let us never forget that Judas served, he was one of the twelve apostles, he participated in the ministry of Jesus, but at the end he was a doer of evil! Let us remember what Mathew 7:22-23 tells us, “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” Let us pray that the Lord would keep us from a legacy like this.

Foundational Scriptures:

Matthew 28:15 (NKJV) — 15 So they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.

Philippians 3:19 (NKJV) — 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.

2 Corinthians 11:15 (NKJV) — 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

2 Peter 2:1 (NKJV) — 2 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

Mathew 7:22–23 (NKJV) — 22 “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

Mathew 7:15–16 (NKJV) — 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?”

Galatians 6:8 (NKJV) — 8 “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life..”
