With One Accord In Prayer And Supplication

Topic: Praying For The Promise Of The Holy Spirit

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. Acts 1:14 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Psalms 18-20

Bible Versions:

Acts 1:14 (NIV) ― 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

Acts 1:14 (NLT) ― 14 They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.

Acts 1:14 (MSG) ― 14 They agreed they were in this for good, completely together in prayer, the women included. Also Jesus’ mother, Mary, and his brothers.

Thoughts Of Devotion:

The first disciples of Jesus were united in one mind, they were united in prayer and cried out for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Prayer was the oxygen and strength of the early pioneers of revival. Without prayer they did nothing! Prayer was the axis that gave direction to everything they did. They learned about prayer by the way Jesus modeled it to them and their desire was to learn to pray as it teaches us in Luke 11:1, “Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

They not only prayed in private, by being alone…but they all united in prayer, as one body calling for the fulfillment of the promise of the Holy Spirit. This was the pattern the early church followed since its beginnings. They did strong prayer, continuously and very persistent. Nothing could stop them! Their faith rose into the realm of the supernatural. Through united prayer, and as a direct result of this, God answered their cry. The dependency of the apostles was not on themselves but on what God wanted to do through corporal prayer that they all rose to the heavens.

This morning God can do the same, and even more with those seeking a revival for these last days. Today there is an urgency, the church needs to unite in prayer, congregational prayer. It is not enough for just a few to pray, all of us in one heart and one mind must persevere in prayer! If we do, God promises to pour out His Spirit in these last days. In Acts 2:1 it reminds us of this truth, “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.” The challenge of the Lord for us is unity in prayer, the God of heaven needs men on earth to cooperate with him in carrying out his plan, and who will satisfy this need?

Pray that we are those pioneers of the revival that God wants to bring in our day. We can answer the call to persevere united in prayer, in one mind, one spirit, one soul, one purpose, and in one place. Amen.

  1. Amen, lord strengthen us so we may continue to unite in prayer and ask for your Holy Spirit to flow within our lives!! We need your presence!

  2. We must be united in prayer. We must learn to pray. Are leader must teach us to pray just like in the past. We can’t do it alone we must be united in prayer. We must pray that we are the ones answering the call.
