Thoughts of Devotion:
The power of the Holy Spirit was given to the disciples in order to witness to the nations, it was to enable them to fulfill the mission of Jesus! They were to fill the world with the message of Jesus Christ, from the city of Jerusalem to the ends of the earth; The Holy Spirit would empower them to do the job successfully and that it would bear fruit. The great commission in Matthew 24:14 would become a reality, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” The Lord’s program was world evangelism.
The disciples not only had the commission to reach Jerusalem, but they had toextend beyond it!His field was the whole world, not just the Jewish…but also the Gentiles. The Apostle Paul was given this commission in Acts 13:47, “I have made you a light to the Gentiles, to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.” Salvation wasn’t just for one race, or ethnic group, the mission of the church was for all mankind and all people!
This same challenge is for us who are part of the church. We cannot settle and be satisfied with only reaching people close to us such as friends, family, and neighbors, this should be just the beginning! We must leave our comfort zone and reach out to the ends of the earth! We are the witnesses chosen by the Holy Spirit for this task. We have orders from above to impact the nations for Christ. The call is to witness, it’s time we get up and take the challenge to obey the great commission. If we don’t, who will? Who will respond to the call of witnesses to the truth? A true witness is willing to give his life if necessary.
