Bible Versions:

Acts 1:6-7 (NLT) — So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know.

Acts 1:6-7 (MSG) — When they were together for the last time they asked, “Master, are you going to restore the kingdom to Israel now? Is this the time?” He told them, “You don’t get to know the time. Timing is the Father’s business.

Thoughts of Devotion:

We see in this portion of Scripture that the disciples begin to ask questions of Jesus. And the main question was in relation to the kingdom, they thought Jesus would establish His kingdom here on earth! Since he had been talking to them for about forty days about the topic of the kingdom, it was for this reason that they were expecting an earthly kingdom in which Jesus would be king. The disciples expected the Messiah would occupy the throne of David, destroy the Roman government and reinstate the kingdom of Israel. But, this would not happen immediately! Since the kingdom that Jesus would establish would be of a spiritual nature.

In John 18:36 the Lord reminds them of this truth, “Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” Jesus made it clear that the kingdom of God would be established in the spiritual and unearthly. According to Scripture, in Jesus Christ the kingdom comes as a message of power, backed by miracles and wonders. They could not be thinking of an earthly kingdom, but on receiving power from on high!

Today we have a clear and defined approach, and it is spiritual, not earthly! We have received an unshakable and eternal kingdom. We have the power of the Holy Spirit to live in another standard of living. We are citizens of heaven, “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 3:20). We’re on a mission; we are only passing by in this world! Our mission is to expand the kingdom of God to the ends of the earth. This morning this truth has to be present in us, we must completely revolutionize our way of thinking and acting. We are investing in the eternal, not temporary. In that which transcends the system of this world, a spiritual and enduring world.

  1. Lord allow me to show others that I am not from this earth!! I pray that I may be an example of a spiritual Christian!!

  2. God created everything, he continues to create things. We do not know what goes on in his mind, we don’t know what he will create next. We are not meant to know, only experience.
