Thoughts Of Devotion:
The outpouring of the Holy Spirit happend on the day of Pentecost. The disciples prayed and persevered in the upper room until the day they would see the fulfillment of the promise. We read the glorious outpouring from the Holy Spirit in Acts 2:3-4, “Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” What a glorious day! What a supernatural experience! They were filled with power from on high and as evidence they began to speak in other tongues.
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, the Father’s promise was fulfilled! Finally they received the baptism of the Spirit in their lives. What they anticipated with great expectation, it was now a reality. They were being submerged in the presence of God, and the investment of His power was fulfilled in all of them. The Word of Luke 24:49 was fulfilled in them, “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
Through the baptism of the Holy Spirit they were now going to be witnesses, they would be able to carry out the mission of Jesus in their lives. Only through the Holy Spirit they would be properly prepared to live a victorious life and effective in service. A task that is impossible without the power from on high! Today we need the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the promise is for us. In Acts 2:39 it tells us, “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” The fullness of the Spirit is something for today, we need his filling to carry out the mission!
Matthew 3:11 (NKJV) —11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Acts 11:16 (NKJV) — 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
Luke 24:49 (NKJV) — 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
Acts 2:3-4 (NKJV) — 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 10:45 (NKJV) — 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.
Acts 11:15 (NKJV) — 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning.
