Thoughts of Devotion:
The outpouring of the Holy Spirit was something the disciples anticipated with great expectation and perseverance. Jesus had promised and surely He would come, but they had to learn to wait because God had already chosen the place and the specific day the promise would be fulfilled. The prophet Joel had prophesied long before, “And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.”(Joel 2: 28-29).
Jesus had promised, his petition to the Father would be fulfilled and would become real to his disciples who were waiting with great anticipation. In John 14:16-17 it says, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. ” They would be filled with the power from on high, The Holy Spirit would equip them for the great work they had ahead. Jesus wasn’t going to leave them alone. The Holy Spirit was to dwell in them!
This morning we have the same promise, as believers, the Holy Spirit dwells in us! We have the Comforter with us to guide and lead us into all truth. In John 16:7 it tells us, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” It’s only through the power of the Holy Spirit that we will come to fulfill the mission of Jesus in our day. We have a great task, a mission to go into all the world and preach this gospel. Let us pray that we are those believers who live with power from on high.

John 14:16-17 (NKJV) — 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
