Thoughts of Devotion:
The book of Acts teaches us a continuation of Jesus’ ministry using the lives of the first disciples. Jesus’ mission continued through the church, which is his body! We are selected to carry out the work of Jesus here on earth! Through the Holy Spirit, the fulfillment of the promise that the Lord gave us in John 14: 16-17, ” And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
We must let the Holy Spirit enable us, and pour His anointing upon us if we are to carry out the mission of the church today effectively. Remember that it was the Holy Spirit who anointed Jesus for ministry as Luke 4:18 tells us, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed.“ The Holy Spirit was active in all that Jesus did and achieved in his mission.
We see the important role that the Holy Spirit did in the life of Jesus, including in his conception (Luke 1:15, 35, 67), when he was dedicated and presented in the temple (Luke 2: 25-27) and to realize all activities of his public ministry (Luke 4: 1, 14, 18; 10:21; 11:13). The Holy Spirit rested upon the ministry of Jesus, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38). As a result, there was power, effectiveness and success in everything He did!
Let us pray this morning that we can be the instruments that the Holy Spirit consecrates and uses to carry out the ministry God entrusted us. Only through the work of the Holy Spirit in us we can realize all the plans He has for our lives. That our life may be submitted to is will! That Isaiah 11:2 will be fulfilled in us, “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” Amen.
Revelation 3:22 (NKJV) ― 22 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’”
Acts 10:38 (NKJV) ― 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
Isaiah 11:2 (NKJV) ― 2 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.
Matthew 12:28 (NKJV) ― 28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.
Luke 4:18 (NKJV) ― 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,[a] To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
John 3:34 (NKJV) ― 34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of
God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.Luke 6:12-13 (NKJV) ― 12 Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.13 And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:
Mark 3:13-15 (NKJV) ― 13 And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. 14 Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, 15 and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons:
Matthew 13:11(NKJV) ― 11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
