Jesus Began Both To Do And Teach

Topic: Summarizing The Ministry Of Jesus

Study of the Book of Acts

The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

Acts 1:1 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Esther 5-10

Bible Versions:

Acts 1:1 (NLT) ― In my first book I told you, Theophilus, about everything Jesus began to do and teach

Acts 1:1 (MSG) ― 1-5 Dear Theophilus, in the first volume of this book I wrote on everything that Jesus began to do and teach

Acts 1:1 (NIV) ― In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach

Thoughts of Devotion:

What a powerful lesson of Jesus’ ministry. His ministry was both doing and teaching. He possesses a balance between “knowing” and “doing”. Our Savior was the living example of what he taught. Continuously he practiced what he preached! And what powerful works, ” And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. 24 Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. (Matthew 4: 23-24).

What an example of life for us to follow, Jesus had left a model life and His ministry to continue! He laid the foundations and the disciples in the Book of Acts to continue what he had begun. Jesus Christ ascended to the right hand of the Father, but He left a special mission. Through the Holy Spirit the disciples were to continue teaching and doing the work with authority and power. In Acts 2:22 it tells us, “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know.”

This morning we have to follow the model left by our Lord Jesus Christ, His life continues through us, his church today! It is not enough just to teach the way, you need to live and practice the gospel daily. We cannot proclaim something that we ourselves are not experiencing or have experienced personally. We are witnesses, not just informants! Remember what 1 Peter 2:21 says, “For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us,leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.” Let us pray that we are disciples who can follow the great example of Jesus in our lives.

Foundational Scriptures:

Luke 24:19 (NKJV) ― 19 And He said to them, “What things?” So they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,

Acts 2:22 (NKJV) ― 22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—

Acts 10:38 (NKJV) ― 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Matthew 4:23-24 (NKJV) ― 23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. 24 Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

1 Peter 2:21 (NKJV) ― 21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us,leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

  1. Jesus was sent down to earth as a human. He faced all our problems, he saw all our temptations. But he ignored all sin and taught us what the right thing to do was

  2. Lord allow me to put what I learn into action, use me so that I may teach others what I have been taught!! I want to make that difference!!
