Thoughts Of Devotion:
The church of the Books of Acts was a church that served God with simplicity of heart. Their lives were full of love, passion and devotion to Jesus. All they did was for the purpose of exalting Christ in their lives. The church demonstrated a deep spiritual life, but with a simplicity of heart! In Acts 2:42 it tells us, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.” They possessed sincerity in serving the Lord, the most important for them was to please God in everything they did!
I think this example of the early church is so important to us today. Sometimes we can make the Christian life very complicated and full of things that at the end of the day will be fruitless for our spiritual growth. The Christian life, serving God is not complicated; everything is based around an intimate communion with Jesus! To serve and fulfill his will for our lives. I’m reminded of what Micah 8:6, “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?”
This morning it is time to return to the sincere devotion to God. We must be careful not to turn away from a sincere faithfulness to God as he tells us in 2 Corinthians 11: 3, “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” The Holy Spirit calls us to return to the altar of devotion, that place where we spend sweet moments in his presence, to fill us so that then we could be vessels to fill others in need! Return this morning to the simplicity of the gospel, prayer, fasting, the word of God and an intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit.
