Acts 16:18 (NLT) ― 18 This went on day after day until Paul got so exasperated that he turned and said to the demon within her, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And instantly it left her.
Acts 16:18 (MSG) ― She did this for a number of days until Paul, finally fed up with her, turned and commanded the spirit that possessed her, “Out! In the name of Jesus Christ, get out of her!” And it was gone, just like that.
Thoughts of Devotion:
The Church of the Book of Acts continually faced a spiritual warfare against the the spiritual forces of the enemy. There was an attack, an assault against each of the believers! The adversary was looking for a way to paralyze the advance of the gospel. It was important that the disciples were sober as it warns us in 1 Peter 5: 8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” The early church had to be ready to do spiritual warfare against everything the enemy threw at them. It would not be easy to carry out the mission of Jesus, but with the power of the Holy Spirit, it would be carried out!
The enemy will always use every effort to meddle in the mission of the church. In this portion of Acts we see how he wanted to use a young woman to distract and even stop the disciples to reach the place of prayer. “Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. (Acts 16:16). Paul had to use the authority of the name of Jesus to drive out and cast out the demons. It was a direct opposition of darkness, but the disciples came up triumphant!
Today we must recognize the spiritual warfare in which we live. Rest assured that for every step forward, for every spiritual advancement in our lives, we will have to fight against the enemy’s oppositions, nothing will be easy! In Ephesians 6:11 it says, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” The triumphant church dresses in the whole armor of God, it acknowledges that the fight will not be against flesh and blood but against all the powers of darkness. Victory will be certain, In the name of Jesus!
Acts 16:16 (NKJV) ― 16 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling.
Acts 3:6 (NKJV) ― 6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
Ephesians 4:18 (NKJV) ― 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;
John 12:31 (NKJV) ― 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
Matthew 8:16 (NKJV) ― 16 When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick,
1 John 4:4 (NKJV) ― 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) ― 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
