Thoughts Of Devotion:

The Church of the Book of Acts was a church of prayer. They possessed a perseverance in prayer. If there was something they knew how to do, it was to pray! The Bible continually recognized how the early disciples continually prayed, prayed and then prayed some more. The life of the church always included congregational united prayer as it states in Acts 2:42, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.” In their meetings prayer abounded, the life of the church was a direct result of the fervent prayer that they did.

It was a prayer full of power, when they prayed, things happened! The prayers of the early disciples had immediate results. In Acts 4:31 it tells us, “And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.” There was a move of the Holy Spirit, the fire and passion to fulfill the Great Commission was very evident in the lives of the disciples. We can see a church full of power, with signs and wonders happening daily. They had a spiritual earthquake, the foundations were shaken and the glory of God fell upon his people.

Even in the midst of persecution, threats and all the opposing forces of the enemy, the triumphant church of the Lord was in prayer! In Acts 12:5 it tells us, “Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.“The more the enemy attacked the, the more they prayed! There was nothing that would stop the mission that Christ entrusted to them. Prayer was the key to advance, progress, and accelerate the early church. This is exactly what the church needs today, to return once more to the altar of prayer and cry out for a move of the Holy Spirit in our day!

It is time to return once more to prayer, there is no other effective plan! The church that prays is a church that will be distinguished by its power and for the glory of God who dwells in their midst. As believers today it is the time to commit ourselves once again to a life of prayer. If we do, our life will be revolutionized!
